A.Pengertian Past Continues Tense

Past continuous tense adalah bentuk tense yang digunakan untuk menyatakan bahwa suatu aksi sedang berlangsung selama waktu tertentu pada waktu lampau (past). Bentuk ini menunjukkan bahwa aksi tersebut terjadi sebelum (began before), selama (was in progress during), dan mungkin berlanjut setelah (continued after) waktu atau aksi lainnya yang terjadi pada masa lampau.

B. Contoh Kalimat

1. I was praying when you came to my house yesterday. (Aku sedang beribadah ketika kamu datang ke rumahku kemarin).
2. My mother was cooking fried rice while I was repairing my laptop. (Ibu saya sedang memasak nasi goreng ketika saya sedang memperbaiki laptop saya).
3. I was not having my breakfast when the accident happened. (Saya tidak sedang sarapan pagi ketika kecelakaan terjadi).
4. Were they eating sandwich during the lunchtime yesterday? (Apakah mereka sedang makan sandwich selama jam makan siang kemarin?).
5. Were you working all night yesterday? (Apakah kamu sedang bekerja sepanjang malam kemarin?).

C.Rumus Past Continuous Tense

Untuk membentuk kalimatnya, kita harus menerapkan rumus bentuk lampau dari be + present participle (-ing) pada kata kerja utama.

Positif (+)	Subjek + be (was/were) + verb (-ing) + …	She was waiting for you yesterday They were discussing my birthday party
Negatif (-)	Subjek +be (was/were) + not + verb (-ing) + …	She was not waiting for you yesterday They were not discussing my birthday party
Interrogatif (?)	Be (was/were) + subjek + verb (-ing) + …?	Was she waiting for you yesterday? Were they discussing my birthday party?
